QuestionMy sister just found out she was pregnant like a week ago ...n a couple of days after she got arrested and his locked up for 90 days...n she says she cant do anything while shes in there...so i wanted to kno how far along a female can be to have an abortion...i heard u can be up to your last month...is this true?
AnswerAre you sure she is unable to get access to medical care while she is in prison? This would in fact be illegal. You may want to check with your lawyers to make sure she is able to get an abortion if that is what she wants. In USA, you can no longer have abortions very easily in the second and third trimesters because of a recent ruling that banned the so-called "partial birth" abortions (they are nothing of the sort; the ruling simply outlawed one of the safest methods of aborting a 5-7 month old fetus).
It is in general much easier and much safer to get an abortion in the first trimester - more than 90% of abortions performed take place before the fetus is 3 months old.
Your access to abortions in the second and third trimesters is limited, and depends on the state in which you live. You can find out about the abortion laws in your state by calling your local chapter of Planned Parenthood or looking it up on the internet.
