QuestionQUESTION: Hi i had a surgical abortion 2 days ago (19th nov) Its now the 21st of nov. And i cant help but wonder if it was successful. I was 5 weeks 4 days gone however, the doctor said that the embryo didnt look like it was pass 4weeks and that the pregnancy didnt seem to be 'good' (his words). I did the termination some where else since the doctor was just for a consultation and he did not perform terminations. To my surprise the process was quick an over within 2mins if so much, maybe it was because it was so small. I kept asking the doctor if he sure that its over and he kept assuring me that it was. I didnt bleed afterwards just some brownish looking liquid came out and that was it. I felt like nauseated until today since the nausea seems to have left but I am still frequently urinating and I have no appetite maybe I have no appetite cause I am sitting around only wondering if its over. This is not my first termination but I just do not feel relieved, I just feel to cry. Any advice?
ANSWER: Hello, Tiffani,
It sounds like it's possible the embryo hadn't survived. This would explain why it didn't look past 4 weeks. But don't be surprised at how quick the abortion was. Most abortionists rush through the operation; they make more money when they rush and do more per hour. You wouldn't necessarily bleed afterwards. Brownish liquid may be old blood. If your baby wasn't still alive, that could be why there was brown fluid. But it sounds like your hormones were fairly high because you were experiencing nausea. Some of this could be your emotional reaction to the situation.
Whether the abortion was complete, I can't say. To find that out, you'd need an ultrasound and possibly some other tests and an examination. If it's not complete, follow the doctor's advice. Don't go back to the abortionist. He wasn't really thinking of your well being or your future. He cannot be trusted.
Think about why you had two abortions. Are you unmarried and still having sex? This is unwise. You bear the consequences of whatever happens, and it can be pregnancy or sexually transmitted disease. You deserve better. Abortion is very dangerous and causes damage to your body. The more abortions you have, the more damage there will be. You run the risk not only of future disease, but of having a baby with a serious birth defect. I can explain more if you want to know about it.
Not feeling relieved is a common experience. Abortion is a traumatic experience, an assault on a woman's body and her emotions. Sooner or later, most women feel regret and other troublesome emotions. It is important to deal with this, because it can cause serious emotional problems in the long run. I don't know if there is anyone in Trinidad and Tobago who can counsel you and understands post-abortion issues. Allow yourself to grieve. Commemorate your baby in some way. Find someone you can talk to, even if it's just a friend. On the due date, and on the anniversary of the abortion, be sure and be with friends and loved ones. Don't be alone. You can probably get some online counseling by going to this web site:

Please do this, because not dealing with it can be very costly in terms of your well being.
I am also here for you, and will welcome a message from you any time you need to talk. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Please take care.

QUESTION: Thanx alot.....I think I could just be so worried that I cannot function. I have an appointment with an ob/gyn today even though its only a few days after the termination. I just want to know if there is a problem so I can deal with it early. I will update you with the information as I obtain it.
Thanx for your reply
AnswerHello, Tiffani,
You're welcome. I think you are probably right, because being worried can have all kinds of bad effects on the body. Certainly wanting to deal with a problem early is a good idea, and I appreciate your plan to update me.
You deserve to be free of the fear of pregnancy. Please think about the other things I said, and do what will be in your best interests. You don't need to run the risk of pregnancy and abortion to find a good man. A good man won't take advantage of you. Take care.
