Acrylic Nail Removal Issues: What Went Wrong & How to Avoid It
QuestionHello,
My nails are just awful! I had acrylic nails put on a couple of months ago and I don't think the girl did them right. The acrylic didn't go all over my nails and I had to keep filing down the edges and they were starting to separate from my real nails. I went in about two weeks ago to have them done the once the guy took off the polish and noticed what they looked like he just took them off (didn't soak them at all)just used the edge of a nail tip to peel them off and that hurt!! Anyway, I have tried I don't know how many different products to strengthen my own nails (which they used to be real strong and suddenly just all broke off)and don't seemt to be doing any good with them. I haven't had anything on them in two weeks, is there anything that I can try to strengthen them more? I have even started taking prenatal vitamins and I'm not even pregnant, just heard that they were good for your nails. And should I go back and have more tips put on since it has only been two weeks? They are all broken back to the quick....real short!!
Sorry so long, just wanted to try and describe everything okay.
Thanks,
Nita
AnswerFrom what i've heard from you i would think you weren't very lucky with your nail techs. Sometimes lifting ocurs but should never be such a nasty thing, and as for peeling the nails off.. Well that is just pure sadism... Since your nails are quite fragile at this moment it would be a huge risk to get another bad tech. Otherwise i would encorage you to get you nails done again. Acrilics (or any other system) when performed well proctects the natural nail. Its normal that once you remove the acrilics the nails fell softer, it because they have been dehydrated to make the acrilic stick to the nail plate. After the removal you should use plenty of cuticle oil (over the nails and cuticles) and hand lotion. In your case i think some damage must of been done and your nails could feel weeker for a while since it takes about 6 months for the nail to grow completely out (from the cuticle to the free edge).
If you do decide to have your acrilics redone make sure you have enough references about who is doing them, ask to speak to a client, look at nails done by the person, etc. Just make sure it's a good professional!
