QuestionI recently had my acrylics removed and redone as they were old. My regular nail tech was not there and a girl I had never used did them. In removing them she actually gouged through my natural nail to my nail bed. It bled, and was, and remains, painful. She wanted to put an acrylic nail on it then, but I refused, saying I would come back when it had healed enough, and she did the remaining nine. Was I right to be afraid and refuse to have an acrylic put on immediately? How long should I wait to have a nail applied? I have put liquid skin product over the injury and keep a bandaid on it. I don't like having nine nice nails and one naked one. She said next time I need them removed, they would let me soak them in acetone for an hour. Is that really safe for my skin? Thanks.
AnswerI really don't understand why is there a need to remove and replace acrylics, even thow you might have them for so long, if maintenace is performed correcly, there should NEVER be a need to do this, this only causes unecessary damage to the nails. I've had my nails without removing them ever for over 2 years now. Removing and then reapplying should only be done ocasionally on nails that have to much lifting, making it quicker to soak off and start again then to remove the lifted product by filing.
About having acrylic over an injured nail, well there are 2 sights on this, by applying directly you are increasing the risk of over exposure, but by covering the injured part with acrylic (as long as properly disinfected first) you are protecting it from other possible traumas, but i think you done the right thing, but there's no need to wait for too long, once it has reasonably healed have acrylic over it and it will prevent it from hurting when you bump it etc. (be sure they disinfect very well thow)
Hope i could help.
