QuestionWell first I'm not very good with nail termonology. My problem is I don't like having fake nails, but my nails are very weak and I can't grow them. I was thinking of getting tips and letting them grow out and keeping my nails strong by getting them wrapped. Does this sound like the way I should go and would that be expensive to keep up with that maintenance? Is there a better way?
AnswerA great many people don't actually 'want' nail enhancments or 'fake nails'. Most that do have them, are just like yourself (even me).
I would definately suggest getting tips put on, and then grow them out while keeping an overlay of product over the nail. Eventually, it would be just your nail with an 'overlay' or 'layer' of product to protect and support the nail (nails can NOT be strengthened by product. The actual nail itself is not strengthned).
I "personally" prefer UV Gel nails, but there are many options available to you.
UV Gel
Resin Dips
Wraps (fibreglass, linen, and silk)
Standard Acrylics
(please note, all are acrylics, just in different forms, hence the different names)
Upkeep of nail enhancements is a monetary investment. The cost depends on where you go to get services, what type of product it is, AND lastly, how hard you are on your own hands and if you break them a lot. Oh, and where you live also determines costs (local competition)
A lot goes into determining what is best for you.
My advice, to get more value for your money is to keep the nails (whichever kind you get) on the short side, to avoid breakage and to be able to go longer between appointments.
Also, the use of cuticle oil (Solar oil or similar) 2 times a day will also help them last longer.
I hope that this has helped.
In addition, PLEASE see this page on my site on how to avoid MMA (a toxic product used in "CHEAP" standard acrylic that is illegal) and NSS (non standard salons) Salons. This will help you choose what's best for you and how to choose a good technician.
