Acrylic Nails & Pregnancy: Safety Concerns & Ingredient Awareness

Question
I just had my "acrylic" nails done yesterday.I have done it twice in my entire life.I usually like to keep them short and natural.I am attending a wedding so decided to look better-)

I noticed unusual strong smell so i asked my manicurist if the chemical he is using is dangerous to my health.he denied saying that the same chemical is being used by the dentists to make artificial teeth.so i went along not knowing anything anout the ingridient.
I am trying to conceve by the way and trying to keep healthy in every way i can,but never thought that nail extentions can be harmful.this morning i decided to do research if acrylic nails are harmful only to descover the MMA scary facts.Firts of all i didn.t even know that its called mma.I just remembered what the manicurist said that the chemical was used in dentistry.so there the PANIC started.i called him to ask if the chemical used was MMA he just said i don't know cos it is written in chinese,it is the chemical used for teeth but diluted.so here i am all paranoid and asking for help:CAN it harm me in any way just by using it this one time only, and should i remove them?will keeping them on till they grow out cause any damage to me?i know trying to remove them is an impossible task but is there a way?!
HELP!!PLSSSS
p.s:sorry that was more than one question

Answer
You can rest easy:  now that the product is cured, it is inert and will not directly harm you or your nails.  The problem with MMA liquid is that it is a strong sensitizer--people who are prone to sensitivity to chemicals will likely become sensitive, and develop an allergy to, MMA.  The other problems with using MMA for nail enhancement is that it's extremely hard (it's for dentures!!), and it doesn't adhere well to a healthy, intact nail plate.  The nail plate must be roughly etched for the product to stick well--and then it REALLY sticks.  And because it's so hard, if you break the enhancement, it is highly likely that the natural nail will break into the nail bed, also.  OUCH!

These are the main reasons that MMA is banned for use on nails. The vapors are stinky, but unless you're breathing them 24 hours a day, seven days a week, they aren't going to harm you.  If your enhancements are very thick, I'd find a reputable nail tech in your area and at the very least have them thinned out. You don't have to get them removed right away, but by your next fill I would recommend having them either thinned out, or removed all together with new product applied (the good kind, this time! :D).

I hope this helps! Feel free to follow up if you have any other questions.
