Troubleshooting Cracked Transparent Nail Tips: Causes & Solutions

Question
QUESTION: Hi Heather, I have been trying to use transparent tips for nail art and I find they crack and sometimes spider web crack under the acrylic. I even bought predesigned tips in hopes to remedy the problem. I LOVE them but they crack to, what is the problem?

ANSWER: The problem is possibly that the pre-designed tips are not made from super tough ABS plastic.

But more likely, are you putting a dehydrator on the nail just before you apply product (L&P or Gel)?  Are you applying primer to the entire nail?

Only apply products meant for dehydrating the nail plate TO the nail plate ITSELF.  Applying it to plastic tips can make them CRACK :)  I sometimes use a q-tip soaked in my preferred nail prep to make sure I ONLY touch the natural nail.

QUESTION: Hi Heather, my primer does not touch the extension and they are apparently made from abs plastic. They split (mind you not all of them split)from the free edge back. Could it be the way I am filing them after I cut them to length? Thank you so much for your help.

Answer
ok I can't get a good picture in my head, is there a picture of exactly HOW they are splitting?

Is it the tip ITSELF that is splitting, or is the NAIL ENHANCEMENT breaking at the free edge?

That can be all down to application AND filing.  If you don't apply enough product at the stress area, the enhancements WILL break there.  If you file OFF the product you put there, they will crack then too.

I think we need a one on one pow wow lol.

More info, lets get this fixed.
