Hi,
I get the acrylic over my nails, they buff then they apply polish, I get the airbrushing, then the gel that I described. It doesnt always happen. No there is no pain with that nail. I also noticed it happened alot in the summer.
What do you think?

-----Question-----
Hi,
I have gotten fills (I don't have the actual acrylic nail glued down this is just acrylic over my own nails.). The tech uses powder and makes the small ball smoothes it with the brush and then I usually get a french manicure. After this they apply a gooey gel (its like hair gel) and I put my hands under a lamp. All of my nails look good except my right thumb nail. It has a slight yellow tinge. I have noticed this before when using the gel. What is this?
Thanks!
Barbara

Hi Barbara!
This is what I got out of your question; you have an acrylic overlay then you get french manicure polish or airbrushed and then you get a gel topcoat. Or you get french acrylic nails, where the whites are acrylic and then you get the gel top coat. This question could go a few different ways, so if you could answer some of my questions, so that I can give you a for sure answer on this and what to do about it.
1) Is your french manicure acrylic or polish.
2) Does your technician buff the acrylic before applying the gel.
3) Does your tech buff with an oil of some kind?
4) Do you have any pain on your thumb nail?
5) Are there any other products used between the process of the acrylic and the gel? (Polish remover/Pure Acetone/Alcohol/Oil)
6) What part of the procedure to you notice the yellow appearing?
Some times certain products will react with one another and cause yellowing. I even had an acrylic brush once that didn't react well with a certain acrylic, and it would sometimes yellow the acrylic, but darnett I loved that brush! That is another question I could ask but I think it would be a little hard to deside if her Acrylic or Gel is compatible with their brushes?
So please, write me back and I should have a simple answer for you!
Thanks Barbara,
Jeannie
AnswerBarbara, I'm positive that this is product contamination. Most products will yellow if they get contaminated.
It's interesting researching gels or acrylics that yellow, some people have problems with certain products yellowing or not working right, but some don't. It can be the atmosphere, weather conditions, product contamination, smoking, and tanning. OPI products work great in the Southern States, but not the Northern. Funny huh!
Beings your yellowing changes every time and its not on all 10 I'm sure it contamination during the application process. Maybe she accidently touched your thumb nail before she put on the gel, she may have a product on her fingers that doesn't agree with the gel or the polish.
My suggestion to you is watch every move your technician makes during your next fill. See if she is, at any point touching your nail/nails and it ends up becoming discolored. There is a little possibility that she buffed with oil and didn't get all the oil off, or that when she buffed without oil there was something on the buffer. There are multiples ways to contaminate a product, you just need to observe and find out what it is. It could even be the brush or her liquid to powder ratio with the acrylic isn't right. If you have an idea about it let me know, or talk to your technician. Say, "Hey, I noticed you accidently touched my thumb with your finger before you put on the gel and now its discolored." Make her aware of whats going on, make sure she knows you noticed, so that she knows to keep an eye out for it in the future.
Thanks Barbara and good luck!
