Nail Growth & Breakage: Causes, Prevention & Strengthening Tips
QuestionHi. My problem is my nails. I find them extremely hrd to grow, if i'm lucky then they'll get to a length just past my finger length then break, but usually it's shorter. They seem to be quite thin because they're very bendable which is terrible if you're trying to undo a knot or open a can of drink or something. They also seem to, um, i guess "split" near the ends, like a layer of the nail will tear off, then another will break and eventually it'll either all break off or you need to just tear it off and start again..i can tear my nails with my teeth they're that weak, no need for nail clippers when making them shorter really. I've tried these nail hardeners - sally hansen brands etc..they seem to be doing something for the first weak but as soon as i'm not applying heaps every day or whatever's needed then they are ok for a day or so then go back to normal..i wonder if there's some nutritional aspect that i should be attending to more, ike if there's a specific nutrient that might help if i have more in my diet. I'm not sure.. I'd appreciate any advice though. Cheers
AnswerEven thow nutrition can influence nails the most important factor are exterior aggressions. do you use your nail with solvents, cleansers, detergents often? Do you soak them in water for long periods of time? Try to wear gloves for any chores that can be harder on nails.
Have you ever considered enhancements? Sometimes it's virtually impossible to obtain the desired nails, just because we weren't blessed with strong nails. Applying enhancements can help you grow your own nails, or add to the length instantly giving you the desired look, but enhancements require maintenance and proper aftercare procedures so don't just go get them on a whim.
Hope i could help.
