Lustrous Nails System: At-Home Gel Nail System & Safety

Question
What can you tell me about the Lustrous Nail System?  It is an at home
gel system.  I am very interested in this product.

Will the UV light adversely affect the vitiligo patches I have around my
nails?  Thank you.

Answer
(the following is a cut and paste from the website advertisement)

"LUSTRIOUS NAILS
NAIL BONDING SYSTEM

Longer, stronger nails are at your fingertips with Lustrous Nails. A salon-quality nail bonding system, Lustrous Nails beautifies your nails without silk wraps or acrylic coverups, which can smother and weaken your natural nails. Its non-toxic polymer gels are gas permeable, allowing your natural nails to respire normally. The nail gels cure quickly under the specialized ultraviolet bonding lamp for natural nails or nail tips with a high-gloss, chip-resistant finish. Let Lustrous Nails strengthen and protect your nails naturally-without jeopardizing the health of your natural nails. "

I am inclined to think that most of this is a marketing scheme to get you to buy their products. My red flags?  The terms "Non-toxic," "respire," and my personal favorite, "naturally."

Water is toxic to humans.

Nails do not have lungs, and as such do not breathe, take in oxygen, or even sweat.

Road tar, excrement, and poison ivy are "all natural."  They are also organic ;)
Any "at home" enhancement system is not made to hold up as professional systems do, and that's why we are trained and then tested to receive our licenses to use the product we do in the salon.  I wouldn't personally recommend trying ANY product at home, no matter were and how you can purchase it, unless you have been trained to do so technically.

As for UV light affecting your vitiligo: I wouldn't THINK that it would, the wattage in just about any UV lamp is so low that you would have to have it on 24/7 for months to even get a slight tan lol ;)  If you absolutely have to have this product, or even if you opt for UV Gels applied by a professional, then ask your Dr. for an OK first. If your skin is sensitive because of this condition, and is reactive to some products, then I ESPECIALLY wouldn't recommend using a home kit- any exposure of uncured product to your skin could keep you from wearing ANY enhancements ever again.

Thanks for your question!  Hope I was helpful.  :)
