Identifying Acrylic Nails: What to Know After Your Manicure

Question
I just got my nails done monday this week and i didnt go to a very expensive place.($33) I was told i recieved a "gel powder" but after reading up on this i found that it was really an acrylic powder i had applied to my nails. It really isnt a bad job, he first drilled my nail lightly and put like 2 plastic tips on 2 of my broken nails since the rest were my naturally long nails. Then he put the primer and gel powder, put it under this purple light and painted. Now, there are some little buubles in the paint probably due to my cleaning w/ alcohol around the house. What I'm afraid of is that MMA was used in my nails. Im afraid to get them removed because i have nice nails underneath i dont want to end up with holes in the meat of my nail. What should i do to get them removed properly and to ensure that i dont end up with disgusting peeling nails?

Answer
Dear Karina,

In all likelihood, since the technician used an electric file on your natural nails (which is a no-no and should NEVER be done), you do have MMA as that is the only way to get it to bond to the nail.
Also, UV Gel's NEVER have powder. You were scammed. The use of a light is NOT a guarantee that you have Gel nails.

You would be best to soak them off in acetone and as they are 'likely' mma, it will probably take close to 2 hours.

Following their removal, apply cuticle oil to the cuticle and the surface of your nails several times daily.

Best of luck and feel free to contact me for more information.
