Safe & Effective UV Gel Manicure Removal: Expert Advice

Question
Hello, Victoria!

What is the best way to remove a UV Gel Manicure? I have had my set on for over one year, and I would like to give my natural nails a break and allow them to "breathe" for a litte.

Please help!!

Thank you,
Melissa

Answer
Dear Melissa;
What do you mean by "breathe"? Natural nails do not breathe, nor do they need to. This is an old wives tale.  There is no need to give your nails a "break" UNLESS you have a poor quality technician who is either A) damaging your nails with her technique of application  and/or  B) using illegal toxic products containing MMA.

Unless you're unable to maintain them due to finances or time constraints (and can't keep your maintenance appointments) , there is absolutely no need to have them removed.  They don't breathe.

However, for removal: seek out the assistance of a qualified technician.  If not removed properly, you'll cause damage to your nails.  UV Gel usually requires that it be gently buffed off to the thinnest layer and left to grow out  OR IN RARE CASES (as there arent many 'soakable' brands of gel) soaked off in pure acetone.
However, you must ascertain if indeed you have real uv gel on your nails.
If powder was used THEN NO, THEY ARE NOT REAL UV GEL.

If they are QUALITY and legal acrylic, then they should soak off in 20 to 30 minutes in the acetone.  IF they don't, then it's very likely that they are MMA.

Please feel free to contact me for further information.
Best regards.
