QuestionI have worn acrylic nails for about 5 years. Yesterday I was told I needed a new set, had them removed (not by soaking) and was told gel would stay on longer and had gels applied before noon. Later in the evening and today I still have a tingling sensation and the nail beds are somewhat tender to the touch as are the cuticles to the sides of the nail. Do you have any explanation for this?
Susan
AnswerDear Susan,
When quality enhancements in the form of Acrylic or UV Gel are applied PROPERLY and well maintained, they do NOT ever need to be removed.
And, gel CAN be refilled/rebalanced over existing acrylic without removing it.
In some cases, a technician prefers to remove the old product that was applied by a previous technician as they can't guarantee the longevity of the original enhancements as they dont know what product/quality they are and whether they were done properly.
However, it's NOT necessary.
They weren't soaked off??? I am hoping that they were NOT forced/ripped/pried off. This causes damage to the natural nail and is done by NSS (non standard salons).
That is the primary cause of your discomfort, that they were forced off.
UV Gel is NOT better than QUALITY Acrylic. QUALITY Acrylic and REAL UV Gel are equal in performance.
The only instance that there is a difference is if A) it's not real uv gel, and powder was used. There is NEVER powder with REAL uv gel B) MMA (the illegal/toxic variety) Acrylic, often used by NSS and discount shops.
Please see this page on my site to learn more and PLEASE report this salon's practices to the appropriate office in your local
