Gel Polish & Healthcare Professionals: Infection Risks & Regulations

I am sure you are aware that health care professionals are banned from wearing artificial nails. I have a nurse who says her nail tech uses a gel polish, and this does not constitute an artificial nail. Help! Are you aware of any increased risk for infection with gel polish applied to a natural nail? Can bacteria get under the surface?

In my opinion if nurses are banned from wearing nail extensions, nail polish is just as unhygienic and yes it probably does get bacteria under it, the same as bacteria is probably collecting under the free edge of her nail also.  Hopefully the should be wearing gloves?
