Applying Color Polish Over Solar White Tips: A Nail Care Q&A

Question
I have solar white tips currently.  I wonder if I can have a "color" polish put over the white tips?  Would they turn yellowish?  I'd like to try color again after having white tips for so long.  Thanks!

Answer
There is a Myspace page that has a very good (so I'm told) blog entry about "Solar Nails"... you can read it at http://www.myspace.com/nailsbymaggie

There is no reason you can't polish over pink and white acrylics. If there is a gel topcoat over the acrylic then polish might not stick to it as well, you can gently buff the topcoat to remove the shine, this will make the polish stick better. When you want to remove the polish and go back to the pink and white, just apply a non-yellowing topcoat after you remove the polish.

If there is no gel topcoat over the acrylic, applying polish directly over the acrylic might stain the acrylic when you take the polish off. This is pretty easy to buff off and then you can reapply topcoat. Also, you can use a coat of clear polish or basecoat under the color polish to avoid staining.
