QuestionHello Megan,
10+ years ago I dropped a weight in the gym on my big toe nail. Fungal infection followed. I took oral medication to clean up the fungus and then had to have surgery on the toe and nail with a specialists at Yale Med School. What I ended up with was a thick toe nail which is only 70% as wide as normail and only connected about half way up the nail bed. The nail is also discolored. It is well attached and grows out very very slowly and has a tendency to get thick.
What I am looking for is a cosmetic fix so I can go around in sandles without embarrassment. What would you recommend?
I saw something about LCN gel nails on the internet. Is this just the same as any gel nails? Do I have to go to a special nail salon or should any quality nail salon be able to do this?
What would you recommend to fix this nail. I am a male and just want the nail to look natural and healthy.
Sure appreciate your time.
thanks,
Eric

AnswerEric,
Well My first response was going to be to wear a dark polsih over the nail and dont worry about the shape. However I then noticed your name and you are male so I dont think polish is your thing.
The reason I dont reccomend Gels or acrylics is becuase it csan create a small dark space for more fungus to grow. Its not good idea on your feet. And yes Nail techs will do it, but it can just make things worse.
I think the reason the nail is thick and yellow is becasue it is slightly lifted due to your surgury. When I nail has any space moisture can get in causing fungus/mold and more problems. I would try using tea tree oil under the nail every night to clean and reduce any moisture! Another great product I have had a lot of sucess with is Vicks Vapor rub. There is a chemical in it that kils fungus and its also very good for your cuticles around the nail. Appy that twice a day and see if you have improvment.
