Gel Overlay Longevity & Nail Health: Questions Answered

I saw a previous question that Steve asked on 11/20/2007. His question pretty much answers mine except for with a gel overlay would you have to continue to get it like a fill every two weeks, and once you did stop using it would it make you natural nails weak and is there a time frame for your natural nails to go back to their previous state. In Steve's question you say the UV topcoat is durable but is it shiny like the gel. Is this a fairly new process I only ask because would I be able to walk into any salon and ask for this process?

Hi Liz-

with gel you still need to get a fill every two weeks as with acrylic. Anytime you apply an enhancement to your natural nails they will weaken when removed. How well they come back to their healthy state is depending on how you treat them post removal and how the enhancement is removed. Most nail salons use a uv topcoat so you should have no problem as long as they use uv lights.
