UV Gel Nail Allergy & Cuticle Injury: What To Do?

Question
December 29th, I had Acrylic Nails done with a UV Gel System Overlay. I paid extra for the service.  The tech nicked my cuticle several times.  I think I have an allergic reaction to a chemical used.  The area around my eyes are swollen. The eye area became swollen yesterday 12/30.  What do you think?  This is the first time I have ever done the acrylic nails.

Answer
Aleta,
Although I am not a doctor, I have seen this reaction and think you likely are having a reaction to one of the products. You may also have touched your eye area before washing your hands and some of the product, either the acrylic or the gel, got on your skin.
It is impossible for me to say if it was the acrylic or the gel. You can do a patch test to see what you are allergic to. Ask your tech to do the patch test on you. If your tech is caring and is educated in all phases of nail technology, she will be able to do this for you.
To alleviate your reaction, you can make a paste out of baking soda and water and apply it to the affected areas. This will neutralize the area of the reaction. Again, I am not a doctor, but Benadryl will help with any itching and swelling you have.
Please be wary of any tech who consistently cuts your skin. This is leaving you ripe to become permanently unable to have your nails done.
Good luck,
buenos dias,
Lynnette
