DIY Haircut Guide: Tips & Resources for Cutting Your Own Hair

Question
QUESTION: Hello,
You seem to be the man, with the good haircutting answers. I'm trying to cut my own hair, so I can save a little cash while in college. I'm new to cutting hair, but I have tried it a few times in the past, made some mistakes and learned some things. I read your other posts and got the Master clipper and T-outliner.  I was wondering do you have any videos that may help me? Thanks in advance.

Will

ANSWER: Hey Will I really don't have any videos at this time but I can say this the best way to learn is to keep practicing even on yourself that how I learned about 12 years ago is cutting myself I messed up a lot of times lol but it was worth it like you said you will learn things by doing it. The best cut to give yourself to start out is brush cuts.

QUESTION: Thanks, I appreciate the encouragement. I just have a few additional questions. How often do you clean your clippers? Also, when I cut my hair before, it seems like the cut hair does not actually lay down, until when a professional barber does it. So, why would this be? I thought the clippers may have been dirty or the angle that I held the clippers. Thanks for the help again.

Answer
I clean my clippers at least after every head for you should be after you cut your hair every time. This consist of using a toothbrush to get the hair out between the teeth of the blades, there is a liquid called blade wash gets the hair underneath the blades as well as any dirt or grease on the blade, and blade oil to keep your blades running normally.
