Gel Nails Not Curing? Troubleshooting Common Issues

Question
After aplying each layer and curing in UV lamp, on applying the finishing wipe, why does all the gel wipe out?

Answer
So you are curing each layer of gel under a UV lamp, but at the end, when you wipe off the sticky layer ALL the gel is coming off?

It's possible that your lamp is not compatible with your gel. This is particularly a problem when you buy a lamp other than the one that was recommended for the gel. Read the instructions for the gel and make sure you have the correct lamp-- not all lamps are the same. If the product doesn't have instructions, trying contacting the company that makes the gel.

If you do have the right lamp that goes with your gel, then most likely the lightbulbs need replacing. The problem with UV lightbulbs is that they still light up long after the UV wavelength needed to cure the gel has worn out. So it might look like they are working fine, but actually are worn out.

You can also try curing the gel a little longer.

When all the layers of gel are cured, there will still be a sticky layer on top of them that has to be wiped off with a cleanser. This is because the part of the gel that is in contact with the air won't cure-- it's called oxygen inhibition-- so you have to wipe that off, but it should only be a very thin layer and once it's wiped off, the gel underneath should be hard and shiny.
