QuestionI developed a painful blister UNDER a fingernail, which then burst through to the outside. Now I have a very strange somewhat red nail starting to grow (it's about halfway up now. I have been using acrylic nails for many years. Any ideas on the cause & treatment for this?
AnswerHi
Thanks for your question, wow! That sounds mighty painful, you poor thing!!
From what you have said, it sounds suspiciously like you have a pretty good infection going on there. Technically, its called Onychomadesis. As for the blister, that is most likely the epicentre of the infection.
If you have not done so already, get to a doctor, now!
You may require some antibiotics to help clear the infection and you may also require some further removal of the nail that is now growing. NONE of this should be performed by you (not to mention, it would be incredibly painful, I am sure)
You mention a long history with acrylic nails, and this is most likely the cause of the intial issue, substandard product, incorrect application of removal or perhaps everyday wear and tear with something finding its way in between the acrylic and the nail plate can all be common ways these issues can occur.
DO NOT get any more acrylic (or gel) applications until this has completely resolved. Even then a bit of a rest before resuming would also be advised. No decent tech would even go near your nails while this is going on, but thats not to say no one would, so you need to stay away (for now!).
But please, seek medical treatment immediately
Hope you feel better soon, if there is anything else I can help with, just ask :)
