QuestionI would like a professionals opinion on what type of equipment I should purchase. I am seeking to melt silver wire and findings for my designer jewelry. The purpose is to make the individual pieces more durable. What type of iron or torch should I purchase if any? I also would like to drill holes into small stones and gems. What kind of drill would you recommend?
I thank you for your time and expertise on this matter.
Many thanks,
Heidy Noriega
AnswerDear Heidy,
Not very sure about the question but I will answer to my best,
1- If melting over a kilo of silver I will recommend a mix of propane and oxygen on a cutting torch #5 ($8.50 Tip) Torch $165
2- If melting less use regular jewelers melting torch with a mix of propane/oxygen
3- There is at Rio Grande a special drill for stones but you can find a diamond tip drill in any jewelers supply Company
