Soldering Brass and Copper: Temperature Guide & Torch Recommendations
QuestionI purchased a low temp solder in brass and copper. Are you familiar with this? What temps do I need to melt this? I think I may need a soldering torch that reaches higher temps.
AnswerJoni, Yes you will probably need a torch the solder is lower than regular solder however you didn't tell me what kind of solder it was which usually determines the melting point. A torch should handle what you need if your metal isn't too large. and your torch too small. Also be careful not to try to weld a small piece to a large one, this too can cause you problems by overheating the small piece, in which case you can heat the large piece and flow the solder then add the small piece just as the solder flows to avoid melting the small piece. All of this takes practice and skill, so enjoy your work but prepare to mess up a few learning.
