Diamond Earrings Marked PPC & 14K: Are They Real?

Question
I have a pair of diamond earings stamped with only PPC, yet on the back/fastner its stamped 1/20 14K on one side and PPC on the other. Ive been told more than once they arnt real because they dont know what PPC is and theres no other stamp besides PPC on the stem.......Are my "PPC" earings real?

Answer
hello Anamarie,
It seems you have real gold filled earring backs at least. The" PPC" is the manufacturers mark and the 1/20  14 kt. stands for 14/20  gold filled. It is likely that somewhere on the setting will be another GF or 12/20, 0r 14/20 mark .It is just hard to find without a loupe .
Those marks indicate that the gold is a layer of solid  14 karat gold bonded to a base metal. The 1/20 means it is 20 % pure 14 karat ( or near 57%) gold.Whomever told you that they aren't real does not know the intricacies of  gold standards markings.
However if you were sold them and they were represented as solid gold earrings, I would consider a return.
Hope this helps!
Best Regards , Ari
