Decoding Gold Ring Stamps: Understanding 'G' and '18K'
QuestionMy son's room-mate found a diamond ring and wondered if it's real. I cleaned it and it looks as good as mine. It's a small solitaire(4-prong) with 2 rows of 16 tiny diamonds embedded? in the top of the band. Inside the band, there's a "G" inside a circle, followed by "18 K - P".
Can you tell me what the stamping inside the band means?
AnswerHello Angela and thank you for your inquiry. Your ring sounds lovely. The G is probably a manufacturers mark and the 18K would indicate gold. The "P" could also be part of the logo. There should be a GP if it was gold plate. If you want to make sure it is 18K gold, you would need to have it acid tested by a jeweler. It is a relatively simple procedure and will do no damage to the ring, but will let you know whether it is gold or gold plate. Hope this helps and enjoy your ring !
