QuestionQUESTION: Dear Peter,
Recently I was cleaning out the attic of relative and I came across an oval emerald Gemstone. According to the certificate it is 69 Cts.
It just looks so plain. Lets say I want to turn this into a fine piece of jewelry. What steps would I have to take and how much money do I have to invest for a finished piece ?
Is it worth going through the trouble ? Where would I take such a thing ?
Thanks.
REgards,
steve
ANSWER: Hello Steve,
Is it 69 ct, 6.9 ct or 0.69ct.
Answer this and I may be able to give you an idea.

QUESTION: Hi Peter,
Its 69 ct.
Thanks again for you help.
Regards,
Steve
AnswerOK,
if it is in fact 69ct then it should be about 40~45mm+ across ie almost 2 inches.
This is really too big for jewellery and I would suggest that if it is a real emerald then it should be kept in a safe.
You could likely have it made into a brooch, and I think any competent jeweller would fall over themselves to make something with it.
Once again if it is a 69ct Emerald, then you have something which is potentially worth upwards $50,000 possibly even $100,000 depending upon colour and clarity
