Authentic Italian Gold Jewelry: Identifying Quality & Avoiding Allergies

Question
Many people advertise that their gold jewelry pieces are from Italy, though when I look for "ITALY" on the piece, it's not there.  I was told years ago that gold jewelry from Italy would have the marking, "Italy" somewhere on the piece.  Is this true?

I would like to purchase a 14k gold Figaro chain from Italy (or  US)for my son, but hesitant because I have had allergic reactions from gold from other countries.

Please advise.

Thank you in advance!

Answer
Joanne,
Most Italian Mfg. will have a trademark and a stamp showcasing ITALY , your allergic reaction stems from the alloys being used to Karat Down the item, perhaps choosing an 18kt gold piece will alleviate this reaction within your chemistry and your sons.
Its difficult to pinpoint the alloys being used either from Italian Manufacturers or Domestic....most Italian Chains will have an 18kt finish over the 14kt and perhaps this added protective coating is why you have NO reaction.....
all the best
