Understanding 14kt MA/HA: Jewelry Maker Marks Explained

Question
Could you tell me the meaning of MA/HA written within the ring band?  Thanks for your time.3

Answer
Jo Ann, thanks for the question.  The mark which is either MA or HA is the makers mark.  This is the identification of the manufacturer.  The 14kt is the "quality" mark, showing the quality of the gold, which is 14 karat.

By Federal Code in the USA, if the quality is stamped into a jewelry item, the maker must also include its mark. This is like "signing a check", attesting to the validity of the check, or in this case, the quality of the gold as 14 karat.

I do not try to identify individual manufacturers from their marks.  That is almost always a fruitless search with little result.

If you need more or have more questions on this subject, please do not hesitate to get back.  Thanks again, Jo Ann.
