Silver Ring Scratches: Causes, Prevention & Repair

Question
hi,
a month ago, my partner and i purchased an engagement ring which is a band consisting of a strip of silver, one yellow 18ct gold and one of 18ct white gold.
the ring has become very scratched, some of the scratches quite deep. the damage started appearing the day we bought it.
the jeweller is insisting i am misusing the ring in some way, but i cannot think how. any ideas?
thanks

Answer
Hi Carole,
I have incountered this problem with other clients.
First of all silver is very soft like platinum, it
marks very easily. Gold is a great metal. I am sorry but rings dont scratch by them selves.  You are coming in contact with something, I would be careful with your keys.
If you carry more than two or three keys on your key ring
remove them,or separate them.  Keys are nickle and very hard. Don't work out with your ring either, the weights will leave very deep marks and bend the ring out of shape.
I hope that helps.
Sincerely
Jeanette Blacy G.G.
