QuestionHello. I have tried to search what the numbers mean and can not find anything. The stamp say: 10k t.o.b. It is a rolo necklace about 24 inches long, and 16.5 grams. the rolls are ,7.5mm wide.10. mm long and 1mm in diameter. Chain is quite shinny. Any help would be great thanks for your time.
AnswerHi, Jimmy.
The marks are done according to the legal regulations in the USA for stamping gold. The 10k should mean it is made of 10 karat gold. the T.O.B. would be the makers mark. The law requires anyone marking a quality on jewelry, such as 10k, must also put their mark on the item. This is somewhat like signing a check, attesting to the validity.
I do hope this helps. The only mystery is who is TOB but that would be very difficult to run down with thousands of makers marks out there nowadays.
