QuestionRecently my grandmother was going through my late grandfathers stuff and found a simple ring (I'm not sure what type of metal .. looks like gold to me or maybe bronze) Its a woman's size ... because if fits me. What I'm most curious about are the markings on the inside of the ring. The markings "OB" inside a square then a set of three crowns followed by a "P" marking. Any information you could give is greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance!
AnswerG'day Dana and many thanks for your query
You didn't say where you lived or more importantly where your Grandfather was from.
The marks (three crowns) is the Assay mark for Sweden and the letter P is a date letter and part of a series. For example the last stamping which would fit into your Grandfathers age bracket should be 1917 but there should have been a P7 stamp - not just a P on its own.
The OB makes me think it could be O8 which is for 1940 but as I can't see it....
You might like to add this to my blog at the following address: http://www.antique-jewelry-fair.com and if anyone else knows they may be able to add to your query.
Last piece of advice - get it appraised.
Hope this helps
