Identify Hallmark: Garnet & Silver Necklace Maker & Date
QuestionHello. I was hoping that you could help me to identify the maker and the period (date of manufacture) of a garnet and silver necklace. On the reverse side of the necklace are the imprints, STG.SIL and FBW. Any assistance that you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
AnswerThank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, I have not been able to locate a manufacturer with the initials FBW in my resources. There were so many manufacturers of silver jewelry that many of them were not registered and there is no record. This could be a studio jeweler making only a few custom pieces. Also could be European maker. You might check your local library for books on European jewelry makers. Could the initials be an inscription or monogram ? A lot of garnet jewelry was European made especially around the turn of the century - 1900 - 1920. Sorry I couldn't be of more help on this one. but, good luck in your research.
