Decoding 925 Sterling Silver Hallmarks: Identifying Origin & Age

Question
I have a sterling silver filigree heart necklace and it has a hall mark I would like to verify.  The top of the heart and the chain say 925 sterling.  There is a hallmark of "c" with a circle around it and then FM.  It is has on the otherside the number 83.  Is this a finburg Manufacturing piece and also how old would it be?  I could not find where the company stopped business if at all.  Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hello Hollie and thank you for your inquiry. Finberg Mfg. Company was in business during the 1930's in Attleboro, Mass beginning busines as far back as 1888, so your ring could be one of their designs. I have no information on when and if they ceased manufacturing. The c within a circle indicates a copyright mark and the number 83 could be a design #. You might be able to find internet past listings for Attleboro jewelry mfg. companies or perhaps in your local library. Hope this helps and enjoy your necklace !
