Platinum Wedding Bands: Is Palladium Added?
Question
Wedding Band
Is it possible that palladium is now being mixed with platinum in making wedding rings? Here is a response I received from Kirk Kara Designers.
Thank you for contacting Kirk Kara, and we appreciate your patience while we researched your inquiry. Kirk Kara Platinum is mixed with the alloy Palladium.
AnswerDebby,
Platinum is used in jewelry at a purity level of 90 or 95% and the other 5-10% is various metals depending on the manufacturer of the casting grain. The most common metals that I'm familiar with that are blended into Platinum are Iridium and Ruthenium, but I am sure it's possible palladium could be a possibility as well since they are all metals that fall in the "platinum group" of metals in the periodic table. Kirk Kara is a very reputable designer/manufacturer. You can feel confident purchasing from them. If you have any more questions about their blend, I'm sure they will be happy to answer them for you.
Enjoy your new ring!
