White Gold & Nickel Allergy: Understanding Metal Composition & Alternatives
QuestionMy husband and I are recently married. It turns out he is allergic to his (10k, white gold) wedding band. We are fairly certain he is allergic to nickel. Do you know if white gold always, or generally, has nickel in it. Also, can you tell me what other type of metal band would NOT contain nickel - i.e. titanium, platnium, yellow gold, etc. Thanks!
AnswerChristina-
White gold is yellow gold mixed with alloys such as Nickel(most popular) palladium, silver etc......Perhaps a higher content of gold as opposed to 41.7 (10KT) would not have a reaction ? just a thought. 18kt white gold or a pure metal such as platinum would solve your problem....although most expensive today ( 1400.00 US / oz)Titanium is less expensive but light weight and not sure its as luxurious as gold or platinum. Only way to really find out is try.........
all the best
