Understanding the Mohs Hardness Scale: Definition & Pronunciation

Do you know how "mohs" is pronounced? Is it MOE or MOTHS?

Fi, this scale of relative hardness based on one mineral scratching another lower on the scale was invented by a German who studied minerals, Friedrich Mohs.  I am not certain of the exact German pronunciation but the generally accepted pronunciation is "moe" with a long "o", as in the word ho, like laughing ho ho.

The scale does not tell the absolute ranges of hardness but compares one mineral to another.  As old as it is, the scale is still quite useful.
