Antique 1830 Sterling Silver Locket - Identification & Value

Question
It opens up into 3 seperate but connected pieces with engravings and carvings of Mary/Baby Jesus, St, Joe with Jesus, Mary alone, roses, diamond chips, dated 1830.  It's beautiful but I cannot find ANYTHING ANYWHERE that even resembles it so I have no idea what it is or its worth. It is on a sterling chain, all of which need polished but I won't polish it.

Answer
Hello Jackie and thank you for your inquiry. I have listed a website below that may be able to give you some information.  Just click on the url or copy and paste it into your browser address field and hit enter.

Religious jewelry comes in many different shapes and forms incorporated into lockets, pendants, etc. Some were very expensive and custom made. Since yours is dated it may well be one of a kind. The worth would be difficult to assess as is the case with most vintage jewelry items. Condition and rarity are considerations and with silver or gold and precious stones, the weight and karat must be considered first. These have to be determined by an estate appraiser or qualified jeweler. I hope the above site gives you some ideas and thank you again for your inquiry. Enjoy your locket !
