QuestionQUESTION: Hi, I'll try to make this short. :) I purchased a diamond ring online, it came with an appraisal dated in 1996, valued at $2250. So, I had it appraised locally, since it has been 12 years since it was appraised. The local jeweler appraised it at $4200. Is it possible that it would be worth that much more today? Or is my appraiser inflating the value? (although he would have no reason to do so.) I'm considering having it appraised by someone else, for a second opinion, but I thought I would get an experts opinion first. Thanks! :)
ANSWER: You need to bring the diamond to an independent appraiser who does not buy or sell. Choose one who is also a Graduate Gemologist (GIA).
This will insure your getting accurate work.
If your in the Northeast states I can do this for you. If not, tell me where your located and I can recommend someone.

QUESTION: Thanks for your response. I am actually in Canada (Newfoundland). I looked for local appraisers online, but didn't find any that don't buy or sell. I was hoping that I wouldn't have to send it outside the local area. I guess you don't know of anyone in the area?
AnswerI have found gem labs in Toronto and in Montreal.
Here is one I found online that claims to have a branch office in Newfoundland.
