Valuing a Pure Jade Bracelet: History, Tradition & Appraisal
QuestionHello, my aunty married a Chinese man, they gave me a pure jade bracelet from Hong Kong. I received this when i was born. I am now 23. My uncle told my parents to keep it safe, as it was tradition for Chinese to brake the jade. How ever they were advised to keep it safe as it could be worth something. It is a light jade, no blotches, scratches, very smooth and thick? do you have any idea if this would be worth something or can you advise me were I can find this out.
Many Thanks
AnswerHello Emma and thank you for your inquiry. Your bracelet sounds lovely. I would advise you to take it to an estate jewelry appraiser for identification of the metal (possibly gold?) and type of jade. Some jade pieces are very valuable and many were set in gold or sterling. Carved pieces are especially desirable in jewelry. Check with your local antique shop or mall, museum or library for a referral to someone that can appraise and test the bracelet for you. There are also online appraisal sites that will work from a good photograph. "What's It Worth To You" is one that I have seen but not used. Hope this helps and enjoy your bracelet !
