Detecting Dyed Jade: Simple Tests & Identification
Questionis there any simple way to see if a jade has been dyed, or is there a chemical i can buy to test the color
AnswerMichael,
I do not know of any simple method, other than how it looks on you first impression. If you are familiar with what is natural then dyed anything looks unnatural usually. The other is cutting or sawing the material a lot of the dyed goods are skin deep so any cutting reveals that is dyed. Such as coral. Black onyx is all dyed and is black all through expect for hard areas on occasion.
So the skin deep is not conclusive either. As far as jade is concerned I have not played with any dyed material that I am aware of.
Good luck,
