Burmese Ruby Valuation & Selling Guide | EGL USA Report

Question

Ruby Spec
QUESTION: I have a Burmese Ruby - 2.31 ct - I bought some time ago. I have a Gemstone Analysis Report from the European Gemological Laboratory (EGL) USA, which I have scanned. I am trying to ascertain the quality and the value of the stone with a view to selling it. I am also seeking advice as to the best place to sell it, preferably in London, or the UK.

ANSWER: Hello Michael
The Ruby looks good from the certificate. But unlike diamonds, it is impossible to determine the value of a Ruby without seeing the Ruby in person or at least a photo. Because even slight variations can cause a huge price difference.

Is it possible that you could upload a photo of the Ruby?

QUESTION: Many thanks indeed for your reply. The Ruby is sealed into an enclosure. I didn't want to break the seals and destroy any authenticity regarding the Lab Report. What do you think ? Should I break the seals ?

Answer
Hello Michael
No, do not break the seal unless someone wants to inspect it for buying or you want to stud in a jewelry item. The Ruby color looks ok. But I need to have a closer look to give you an idea about the value. Is it possible that you could post a close up?
From this photo, I can only comment that it should be over $500 at least.
