Decoding Gold Ring Stamps: CDC & 14K P - What Do They Mean?

Question
I inherited a small gold ring with15 small diamonds from my mothers it is stamed 14k P. and the letters CDC what does the CDC mean ? and what does the letter P mean?

Answer
Hi Teresa,

The CDC stamp is the 'makers mark' telling the manufacturer of the piece and the 'P' is for PLUMB gold. That means the gold is actually 14K for real. The old standard was 14K + or - .5 karats so of course every on made 13.5K to save money. Not anymore. I don't know the mark CDC or I would tell you . Thanks for asking,

Peter
