QuestionI recently came across a topaz stone that my grandmother left me amongst some other jewelry. It was purchased in Kuwait in 1963. The "guarantee" with it states that it is a 39.95carat natural gold topaz. Its color is light-like champagne. Can you tell me what this might be worth?
AnswerTeri,
Placing value on stones is not one of my best things to do. Thing is it depends on several factors. The first is rare beauty. Topaz comes in many color variances. Some rare and exotic others plain and plentiful.
Therefore the price swings wildly. From 10.00 per cart to several hundred dollars per carat. Next is the cut and polish, how well it shines. Then the weight plays a role as well. In your case you have the weight going for you. So the best thing to do is to get a certified gemologist to make up an appraisal for you.
Meanwhile you can comparison shop. Here is a website with some nice Topaz and there prices.

Hope this helps, PS I would have answered yesterday but this site would not work.
