Identifying Vintage Sterling Silver Belt Buckle: Lion, Anchor & 'E.S. & Co.'
Question
English Sterling Buckl
I recently purchased a sterling belt buckle at a garage sale for $8.00. It has a torch with wings coming out of it. There are other details around the torch and wings. It is a two piece buckle. On the back it is hallmarked with a lion passant, anchor, and letter "G" (written in a fancy way). It also has "E.S & Co". I attached a pic of the front of the buckle. Do you know what this buckle was used for? Was it military? I tried researching the internet and cannot find a buckle that looks like this. Any info would be great. PS. I have a pic of the back of the buckle with hallmarks. I was only allowed to upload one picture. I would like to send you the pic of the back of the buckle and maybe you can look at the "G" stamp and date it for me. thanks!
AnswerHello Valerie and thank you for your inquiry. I'm referring you to a website with British hallmarks and company names. It is always easier to identify the hallmark if you have a good visual of it and this site is extensive. The buckle style could be military but similar styles were also used by fashion companies. Here is the website url:
