Can You Glue a Diamond to a Gold Ring? & Understanding Gold Hallmarks
QuestionHi Peter, would it be possible to superglue a diamond to a gold ring? I ask because I was recently conned and have been left with a ring that would cost more to repair (all the claws need replacing) than I paid for it. Also I have been offered a piece from Italy that is marked 595; do you know if this is a hallmark for solid gold? Thanks very much; I think you all provide a wonderful service.
AnswerHi Tricia,
Not a good idea! Super glue won't work. The ring marked '595' is likely 14k. But the number is usually '575'. So I would go with the ring from Italy. The diamond is worth more than a repair job, if you can wait to repair it you'll be ahead in the long run. Good Luck
Peter
