Ruby Polishing: Removing Black Residue & Preventing Cracks

Question
while polishing rubies some amount of diamond powder enters in the small cracks and make the parts of stone black. I had used acetone and HCl and caustic soda (NaOH)  this black dirt does comes out but my stone becomes full of cracks. Is there a way I can take out this diamond powder out.

Answer
Hello Manish
This should never happen. Rubies do not react with chemicals. I believe you were cutting lead-heated Rubies?

If that is the case, please do not used acid/alkali chemicals for cutting. Special chemicals are available int he market for lead-heated Rubies.

I'd suggest you try out them on an inexpensive ruby of the same quality first.
