QuestionQUESTION: I have an oval cut diamond weighing approx 1.55ct of l slightly enhanced clarity and EF color set and I would like to change the setting from platinum to yellow gold. I took to a local jeweller and received the following response: "the diamond has some very large discoloured fractures and internal inclusions that could be extended or cause stone to break during the setting and cleaning process" Should I forget getting it reset, I never knew anything about fractures, when the ring was purchased a number of years ago. The platinum setting is a double gallery and the new setting has not gallery and four claws, the diamond is oval. Thanking you in advance for your input.
ANSWER: Hi Hazel, yes it is possible and I'd probably advise you against re-setting it. Diamonds are extremely hard, but this does not mean they are not susceptible to chipping and breaking. There are quite a number of reasons as to why a diamond would have a fracture, this page is a good resource:

QUESTION: Hi Jonathon: I would like to buy a new oval diamond of the same approx size (1.5ct) are you able to provide me with an average cost I might expect to pay? I realize that there are varying ranges in the quality of a diamond, I would like one that is in good condition, but it does not have to be the best. Thank you.
AnswerHi Hazel, here's a very reasonably-priced oval I picked out for you from our collection:

It's around $7,600, those with G to F color are around $10,000 to $14,000. Don't hesitate to use our Diamond Search tool if you wish to fine-tune your preferences http://www.brilliance.com/diamond-results
