Question
Bangle on my wrist
Hi,
My boyfriend bough me a beautiful bangle as a gift. The only problem is that my wrists are tiny and as with most bangles, it looks huge on me and slides right off. The link to a picture of the bracelet is here: http://www.effyjewelers.com/item/?id=1775
I've attached a pic on my wrist - but it's a terrible pic, taken too close up and doesn't really show how much it's hanging or sliding off. But hopefully it gives some idea.
Is it possible to somehow make this bracelet fit without bending or ruining it altogether?
AnswerNadia, thanks for the question and the photo. Your photo is fine in showing me what the problem is and how greatly larger is the bangle than your petite wrist.
I am afraid at first glance that any attempt to make this bangle smaller to fit your wrist properly will ruin the bangle...but it "might" be done very carefully. The best I can tell, there is no hinge and the bangle slips over the hand. The inside is made with a lattice work of metal and that is the problem. If the bangle is cut and a jeweler can very, very gently bend the bangle to an oval shape on a large steel form made for bangles, then rejoins the bottom ends together, it might work.
This is one of those situations where the jeweler might say "no" because of fear the bangle will be damaged and they do not want to be responsible for the bangle. You should try jewelers to see what they think. I have done similar work when all was a mess, not ruined but took way too much time to make it look right. I have also done similar work when the metal was giving enough to bend gently and all worked our very, very well. So, I cannot say for certain. I would let jewelers see it and do not be discouraged if they say no. Try again. You do not want someone with little experience doing the work so choose a business which has been around for several years and seems to be doing well. Handled gently, this bangle may work out ok. I am not sure but have a good feeling about it.
Best wishes. God Bless and Peace. Thomas.
