Preventing Scratches: Protecting Your Engagement Ring from Wedding Band Wear
Question
Engagement ring
I have a unique setting for my engagement ring (I've attached an image so you can see what I mean). It's platinum with some filigree work and it bows out so that a straight band does not fit flush against it. I bought a straight, plain platinum band however because I'm a nurse and often just wear my band. I'm really worried about the straight band wearing away at the filigree because it lies right against it.
My question is, would it be a crazy idea to put a thin layer of epoxy over the filigree to protect it from the band? You can't see the filigree on the side that I wear the band on so the way it looks isn't a problem. Would acetone take epoxy (safely) off of platinum once I was ready to do so?
Thank you for your time!
Caroline
AnswerHi Caroline,
I would advise against putting epoxy on your ring as that might just damage it and since it is something that certain kinds of acetone cannot take off. Not wearing the ring ( and only wearing it during special occasions) would be the best way to preserve it, especially since filigree designs can scratch and be damaged quite easily. I hope that helps.
