QuestionI have a white gold knife edge engagement ring and had problems getting a band to match. I eventually found a platinum knife-edge band in Tiffany's which looks perfect and I love it. But do you think there will be a problem with a difference of colour that could make the rings look ''odd'' together. I know they will wear differently, but am hoping they will still look like a set despite this.
As I was exploring the options on this, I also got a quote from another jeweller on the Tiffany ring in white gold. This turned out to be a little bit more expensive, as they will hand make it. I'm not sure it's worth it either, as I'm pretty sure it can't look exactly like the platinum band which I love so much.
What would be the best thing to do?
AnswerHannah,
Platinum is a pure noble metal where white gold is Yellow gold mixed with Nickel, palladium, silver etc......
the white gold ring will eventually start to wear and turn a bit yellowish white in color where the platinum ring will stay pure, you can always have the white gold ring Rhodium finished which is a process used in a liquid bath to electroplate Platinum over the white gold to make it pure white color...this costs 15-75.00 depending on where you go.
The process lasts about 3-6month depending on how you wear the ring.
Send me a picture of what you are interested in and I will quote you a price on mfg.the ring. We are wholesale mfg. and can probably make you the ring for 1/2 the cost.
all the best
